Waterfront Ensemble Transformation
The so-called 'Perlenkette' (pearl necklace) is a series of massive buildings with open intermediate areas along the Elbe. They have been part of the development of Hamburg's waterfront since the 1980s. In this series, an ensemble of three buildings with a similar main design is created at the 'Holzhafen' (timber harbor). The East and West office buildings are monumental, deep buildings with courtyards and openings that guarantee contact between the Elbe and the hinterland. Between the two buildings, the 'Kristall' residential tower will rise above its surroundings like a cut piece of crystal.
